My bad. Distracted and on the brink of my 40 day/night journey, I forgot to introduce myself and explain why I started the greenlight. Please accept my apologies.
I'm Britton - tagline: like the country. I'm a socialite buzzing around Charleston, South Carolina, looking for opportunities, trying to slow down, smell the roses, and find balance in this crazy life.
Why am I here? Well let me begin with explaining why now...why Lent...
Last Sunday on Valentine's Day, my Priest started to discuss Lent and it's recent movement away from it's true purpose. After my initial stubborn reaction, I came to appreciate what he said. In short, he talked about Lent becoming "What are you going to give up this year?" and moving towards a challenge resulting only in pride. Beyond it's real meaning, the purpose of Lent is to reflect. It's about renewing yourself. It's about growing. It's taking a hard look and asking yourself:
What can I live without?
What can I do to better myself today?
What can I do to become who I want to be in the future?
So why no facebook? I think we are all keenly aware of the good, the bad, and the very ugly of facebook. I love connecting with people all over. I love finding out about new businesses and events going on in the chas area. Both reasons will make this difficult, but the bad and ugly are enough to unplug. I can live without facebook...well at least till Easter.
And no meat? I'm always moving a mile a minute which translates into a very terrible diet. Going veggie is the first step towards becoming healthy again. This is what I can do to better myself today.
Now that you have a small understanding of why now, why no facebook and why no meat - let me get back to business and tell you why I'm here...blogging to whoever is out there.
This is the part of Lent that is "Who do I want to become?" Blogging to me is slightly terrifying. It's real. It's personable. It's vulnerable. I want to get over the insecurities of putting my thoughts out there and knowing that you may disagree or just not care. I want to grow and understand the social media world (beyond facebook) and push myself to blog and tweet everyday. I think this will give me interesting incite into who I am, grant me direction in my thoughts and ideas, and finally...be a great learning lesson and experience for me to use in my career.
So join me on my healthy journey, my blogging adventure. Your thoughts and the like are very much encouraged and welcomed...but not necessary. This is a personal journey, remember? I'm cool either way.
Cheers to you, today, and tomorrow!
Britt
P.S. Are you wondering what my last meal was before no meat? Little Joe from Bessinger's BBQ. It. Was. Awesome.
